Sashiko is a traditional Japanese form of embroidery that has become popular as a way to mend or decorate clothing and other textiles. Sashiko uses basic running stitches to create geometric patterns and can be done by both novice and experienced stitchers. Embroidery or sewing experience is helpful but not essential. All materials will be provided and each participant will create a sashiko coaster to take home.
The workshop will be taught by Maggie Oldendorf, a member of the Capital District Chapter of the Embroiderers' Guild of America. Maggie has been stitching for about 20 years and has taught beginning embroidery, redwork, sashiko, and crewel.
